Call for papers ¹1 Dear colleagues! We hereby invite you to take part in the international conference “The source of child’s learning…”: the role of primers and basal readers through time and cultures to be held in the State Ushinsky Scientific Pedagogical Library (Moscow, 3, B.Tolmachevsky lane) from 8 to 12th October 2014. The conference is dedicated to the 440th anniversary of the first Eastern European reading primer by Ivan Fedorov and its Moscow analogue by Vasiliy Burtsev. We are planning to study origins, development and transformation of a textbook aimed for the primary instruction in reading, writing, basics of language, literature and the elements of the humanities from its emergence in Ancient East and Antiquity to the variety of its contemporary forms. We are going to discuss the historical role of a textbook through époques – Antiquity and Middle Ages, Renaissance, Modern and Contemporary history – and across the regions of the Old and the New Worlds. All interested educators, historians, philologists, psychologists, sociologists, philosophers, experts in culture and religion studies are welcome to participate in the discussion of the following key topics:
